Romantic Cuts For Diamond Engagement Rings
A diamond engagement ring is the ultimate symbol of romantic love and the intention to get married. It is intended to last a lifetime and beyond. This is why many people choose a round Brilliant cut diamond solitaire. It is a classic style which will not date and is simple enough not to be tiring on the eye. But what if you are looking for a truly romantic ring design? What if you want a personal and very romantic style? Should you opt for a Heart cut or a Cushion cut diamond?
Shape
The Heart cut diamond is almost always fashioned from a round shaped diamond and so it is usually near round in shape. Obviously, being heart shaped, it has deeply romantic associations and is the ultimate symbol of love. As with all fancy cuts, the most important thing about it that you should decide is whether it is pleasing to your eye. If it looks odd in any way, it will become increasingly tiresome over the years.
The Cushion cut diamond is squarish or rectangular in shape with rounded corners and 64 large facets. These features give it a soft plumped up cushion or pillow look which is wonderfully romantic yet classic. Cushion cut gemstones are easy on the eye and always pleasing. It is hard to tire of this cut!
Appearance
The Heart cut is often based on the Round Brilliant cut and for this reason a well cut Heart has a lot of fire and brilliance. However, it must be well cut of the gemstone can lose brilliance.
The large open facets of the Cushion cut make it an excellent cut for high clarity and high color gemstones because the interior of the gemstone is easily viewed. This gives the gemstone a lot of brilliance and sparkle too. However, the Cushion cut, like the Princess cut, also maximises the luster of a diamond. Luster is the amount of light that is reflected from the surface of the diamond and the Cushion cut produces a mirror like reflection effect which is extremely eye catching!
Price
Heart shaped gems must be extremely well cut if they are to look good. This can be a tricky process but it is always expensive. The excellent facet proportions needed to create a Heart shape with high sparkle and brilliance as well as superb looks mean that a large proportion of the rough diamond must be lost during the cutting process. This makes the Heart cut one of the most wasteful and hence expensive cuts.
